In recent years, OR has also been used in the field of esports, including the game Overwatch a team-based first-person shooter. OR can be used to improve team coordination, hero selection, and strategy in Overwatch.

Gameplay Tips

Communicate with your team. This is probably the most important tip for teamwork in Overwatch. Use voice chat to call out enemy positions, ultimates, and strategies. Even if you’re not the most talkative person, it’s important to communicate the basics so your team can work together effectively.

  • Choose heroes that complement each other. When you’re picking your hero, think about what your team needs. If you already have a tank and a healer, consider picking a damage hero. Or, if your team is lacking in crowd control, pick a hero with some stuns or knockbacks.
  • Stick together. Don’t wander off on your own. Stay with your team so you can support each other and help each other win fights.
  • Protect your supports. Supports are essential to any team, so make sure you’re protecting them. Don’t let them get picked off by the enemy team. If you see a support in danger, help them out.
  • Support each other. Don’t just focus on your own play. Be aware of your teammates and help them out when you can. If you see a teammate getting low on health, heal them. If you see a teammate getting focused by the enemy, help them out.
  • Be flexible. Sometimes, you’ll need to change your hero or your strategy to adapt to the enemy team. Don’t be afraid to switch things up if it means you’re more likely to win.

Play your role effectively. If you’re a tank, make sure you’re creating space for your team to attack. If you’re a healer, focus on keeping your teammates alive. And if you’re a damage hero, focus on taking out the enemy’s healers and tanks.

  • Tanks are even more important in 5v5. With one less tank on the team, tanks have a lot more responsibility. They need to be able to create space, protect their teammates, and take out the enemy’s tanks. If you’re playing tank, make sure you’re communicating with your team and leading the charge.
  • Supports need to be more aggressive in 5v5. With one less tank on the team, supports are more vulnerable to attack. They need to be aggressive in healing their teammates and using their abilities to help the team win team fights.
  • Damage heroes need to be more mindful of their positioning in 5v5. With one less tank on the team, damage heroes are more likely to be focused by the enemy. They need to be more mindful of their positioning and make sure they’re not out of position.

Examples of Teamplay and Communication to Clutch Team Fights

  • Call out enemy positioning e.g. ‘Zenyata left side’, ‘enemy pushing left’ (or right), ‘flanker (e.g. sombra or tracer) is in our backline’
  • Call out Cooldowns and Ultimates e.g. Hog hooks, Zarya bubbles
  • Call out your team plays e.g. ‘Zarya Graviton into Pharah Barrage’

Drop knowledge

  • Tell your team the length of your character c0ol downs

Game Analysis

One way to improve team coordination is by developing algorithms that can automatically generate optimal team compositions. These algorithms would take into account the strengths and weaknesses of each hero, as well as the map and the opposing team’s composition. This would help teams to assemble the most effective team compositions for each match.

For example, to improve hero selection and develop models that predict which heroes are most likely to win in a given matchup. This information can help players to select the heroes that are most likely to give their team a competitive advantage.

Finally, develop strategies for winning matches. For example, model the movement of players on the map and to predict the outcome of different team compositions. This information can help teams to develop strategies that are more likely to lead to victory.

Models and Algorithms

Overwatch Louisiana Tech Digital Commons used a Bagging Classifier to predict win rates with an accuracy of 55.8% citing lack of data released by the game publisher. With data realesed from places like Overwatches statslab. OR can be used to improve team coordination, hero selection, and strategy. By using OR, teams can give themselves a competitive advantage and improve their chances of winning matches.

  • Hero abilities data to help predict which heroes are most likely to win in a given matchup. The model takes into account the hero’s abilities, the map, and the opposing team’s composition. This model has been shown to be more accurate than human predictions.
  • Hero selection data to automatically generate optimal team compositions. The algorithm can take into account the strengths and weaknesses of each hero, as well as the map and the opposing team’s composition. This algorithm can shown more effective ways for teams to create compositions.
  • Map movement data to generate strategies for winning Overwatch matches. The strategy can take into account the movement of players on the map and the outcome of different team compositions and help teams be effective at winning matches.
